Virtual Reality Oculus Go

Bring the FUTURE to your library by checking out VR (Virtual Reality) Headset from the South Dakota State Library!

SDSL has received two “Oculus Go VR” headsets from a grant through Oculus to fourteen Western State Library agencies. VR (Virtual Reality) in libraries allows librarians and their patrons an opportunity to explore and create best practices in promoting the use of educational VR content in the library setting. It is also part of a continuing effort to develop programs of STEM related technologies for public libraries and their communities.

Coordinate your checkout with another South Dakota library and communicate with other patrons across the state. Use the headset in conjunction with a summer reading program. Your library may purchase approved apps. by contacting the SDSL.

These headsets are not recommended for anyone under the age of thirteen and should only be worn for thirty minutes at a time. A user agreement and liability waiver must be signed by an adult for any minor child thirteen years of age or older to use the device.

New VR-Cover is included in the Oculus Go kit. The facial interface and foam replacement set allows for easy wipe-clean outer surface between uses with antibacterial wipes. It is made of high-quality PU leather material that is soft on the skin.

Are you searching for a way to bring the virtual reality experience to your community?

The South Dakota State Library is offering an opportunity for an Oculus Go Headset to be permanently located at your library! The receiving libraries will be announced at the 2021 SDLA Conference. To be considered for this opportunity your library must have previously checked out the headset before September 15, 2021. Contact Dustin Larmore to reserve the headset and help your patrons experience virtual reality!
(South Dakota State Library will no longer be circulating the Oculus Go Headset after September 15, 2021.)
