South Dakota State Library Services

The South Dakota Discovery Center offers STEMventure Exploration kits, quality STEM programs in a box, for check out to use in library programs. Full cost of these kits is $200, but through SDSL sponsorship, STEMventure Exploration kits are now available for checkout to all SD public libraries for $100 (includes shipping!).

• Libraries in Bank West counties continue to receive kits at 50% discount through sponsorship from Bank West
• Libraries outside of Bank West counties now also receive kits at 50% discount through sponsorship from the South Dakota State Library.
• 100% sponsorship may be requested by any SD public library. See below.

To request a STEMventures Exploration kit at 50% discount (your library pays $100, SDSL pays $100), follow these steps:

• Visit the South Dakota Discovery Center kit listings to review the available kits to choose from.
• Submit the Discovery Center's Exploration Kit Request Form (also accessible from the Discovery Center's kit listing page). 
• Your library pays the SD Discovery Center $100 and SDSL will pay the other $100
• No approval needs to be given by SDSL before this process.

If $100 is still too cost-prohibitive, SD public libraries may request 100% sponsorship from SDSL (Your library pays $0, SDSL pays $200). Approval for 100% kit sponsorship is limited and will be granted based on various elements, including your library's financial need. To request full sponsorship, follow these steps:

• Fill out the SDSL Sponsorship Request Form and submit for SDSL's consideration. This form only goes to SDSL and will not serve as your actual kit request from the Discovery Center.
• Once you receive notice of approval for 100% sponsorship, then submit the Discovery Center's Exploration Kit Request Form to the South Dakota Discovery Center to officially request your kit. Make sure to check the box for "100% discount approved (For South Dakota Libraries ONLY)".   **Don't skip this step - You must still fill out the kit request form for the Discovery Center! Approval from SDSL does not serve as your kit request.
• SDSL will notify the South Dakota Discovery Center of the 100% sponsorship and pay the full cost of the kit.
• If your 100% sponsorship request was denied, you may still choose to fill out a request form to receive a kit for the 50% cost ($100).
